Bergerac France, 15" x 11"
A 3-colour palette painting and a study of shutters and shadows. The buildings could have been anywhere, but as soon as you get those shutters in, it says 'France'. Strong angular shadows hopefully give the impression of a high summer sun and mixing up the warms and the cools, lights and darks is something that watercolour excels at. A couple of simple figures helps with the scale.
Painted on Saunders Waterford, Cold Press 300 gms.
